Understanding Parent-Child Interaction Therapy

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment for children ages 2-6 designed to improve the relationships between parents and their children. Through this structured approach, therapists help parents develop effective parenting techniques while enhancing their child's social and emotional skills. The therapy process involves live coaching in real-time interactions, allowing parents to practice new strategies under the guidance of a trained professional, ultimately fostering a more nurturing and supportive family environment.

PCIT addresses the following concerns:

  • Destructive Behavior
  • Aggressive Behavior
  • Defiant Behavior
  • Attention-Seeking Behavior
  • Trauma Recovery
  • Anxiety
  • Selective Mutism
  • Life Transitions
  • Adoption Support
